Reminders

This email serves to remind you of actions ahead of the GEW to Rio De Janeiro. 

 

Register for Cultural Activities

Cultural activities currently in the itinerary are offered free of charge as part of the original programme cost. You do not get a refund for not attending these. 
  • Sunday 23 April City Tour  (3x buses with guides)
  • Thursday 27 April Maracana Stadium Tour 
  • Friday 28 April Carnival Experience 

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we plan to offer additional optional cultural activities at cost.  These will require self-registration and payment will be taken in GBP + transaction fee via IBConnect.  Options will be visible today, and sign up opens from Tuesday 18 April until Monday 24 April.
  • Tuesday 25 April: Option 1 = Ferris Wheel, Option 2 = Museum of Tomorrow
  • Wednesday 26 April : Option 1 = Live Samba show, Option 2 = Ferris Wheel
  • Thursday 27 April: Optioon 1 = Maracana stadium (per above), Option 2 = Catamaran Tour , Option 3 = Museum of Tomorrow 
  • Thursday 27 April: Evening option = Live Samba show (can be combined with daytime option)
Activities with low sign up will be cancelled.

What to do in an emergency

I (Somaya) and the IB team are arriving to Rio on 20 April, 8PM, and can be reached by phone, IBConnect chat, Teams and WhatsApp. Please contact me in the event of pre-trip emergency.

If you miss your flight, please book onto the next available flight to Rio De Janeiro and notify Somaya.

Buddy System in Place

Throughout the module we will use the buddy system so there is always someone on the ground who has your back. Please stick with your buddy or at least inform your buddy if you plan to seperate from the group so we know where you are.

If you are in a twin room, by default your roommate will be your buddy. Those who have opted for single rooms should nominate a buddy and tell us who your buddy is. 

The majority of you are travelling with your classmates so can readily spot a missing face. However there are some alums and one GMBA travelling solo without their cohort friends, so please welcome them to your group.

If you are worried about a friend, please get in touch with Somaya or Chris.

Itinerary is live on IBConnect

Your itinerary for the module is now live on IBConnect.   There will not be a PDF version of the itinerary as we reserve the right to make changes to suit the group.

How to view the itinerary via IBConnect App:
Open the App > Go to Events > Choose Events I'm Attending >View All

How to view the itinerary via IBConnect web browser:
Open IBConnect > Go to the Rio Group > Choose the Events tab > Choose "MBA GEW - Rio De Janeiro" > Scroll down to see the Agenda

How to move your events to Outlook (must be done in browser)
Open IBConnect > Go to Events > Subscribe (top right) > Choose the calendar you want to subscribe to.

Remember to sync the events routinely so you get the daily updates.

Airport Transfers

We are offering 3x shuttle buses from the airport to the hotel on 22 April to 23 April which will capture most arrivals on these dates.

You must register for the event so know to wait for you at the airport.
 

  1. 22 April, midday - 2pm arrivals
  2. 22 April, 8-9pm arrivals
  3. 23 April, midday - 1pm arrivals
Instructions for airport transfer if you arrive outside the group transfer period:

Once you arrive at the airport, it's recommended to take a private car to the hotel. As soon as you pass through departure, there will be stations in which you can hire the service. Avoid taking cabs or private drivers on the street, since fares may be higher and often illegal providers. Uber is a good way of transportation, but bear in mind that they rarely speak English, so it might be difficult to find them on the meeting spot.
