Itinerary has been released on IBConnect!


Your itinerary for the module is now live on IBConnect.   There will not be a PDF version of the itinerary as we reserve the right to make changes to suit the group.

NB the screenshots and video walkthrough are of the MSc module to Singapore, but the directions remain the same for this MBA module to Rio.

How to view the itinerary via IBConnect App:

Open the App > Go to Events > Choose Events I'm Attending >View All

How to view the itinerary via IBConnect web browser:
Open IBConnect > Go to the Rio Group > Choose the Events tab > Choose "MBA GEW - Rio De Janeiro" > Scroll down to see the Agenda

You can see the full itinerary in your IBConnect calendar as well, and we will send you a daily email with the next day's itinerary including any changes or notes to consider, please look out for these.
 

Pre-registration vs Self-registration

You have been pre-registered onto all mandatory activities but there are a number of activities there require self-registration such as:
  • Optional Cultural Activities, e.g. Sunday 23 April City Tour
  • "Social" activities, e.g. Welcome Reception or Farewell dinner
Attendance is mandatory for each session and will be monitored using the IBConnect QR code. 
 

Cultural Activities

Cultural activities currently in the itinerary are offered free of charge as part of the original programme cost. You do not get a refund for not attending these. 
  • Sunday 23 April City Tour  (3x buses with guides)
  • Thursday 27 April Maracana Stadium Tour 
  • Friday 28 April Carnival Experience 

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we plan to offer additional optional cultural activities at cost.  These will require self-registration and payment will be taken in GBP + transaction fee via IBConnect.  Options will be visible today, and sign up opens from Tuesday 18 April until Monday 24 April.
  • Tuesday 25 April: Option 1 = Ferris Wheel, Option 2 = Museum of Tomorrow
  • Wednesday 26 April : Option 1 = Live Samba show, Option 2 = Ferris Wheel
  • Thursday 27 April: Optioon 1 = Maracana stadium (per above), Option 2 = Catamaran Tour , Option 3 = Museum of Tomorrow 
  • Thursday 27 April: Evening option = Live Samba show (can be combined with daytime option)


Friday Electives

In true inception style, we are offering electives within an elective. You get to choose which company to visit on Friday morning based on a selection of 4. Capacity is restricted so you will be required to self-select your chosen visit. 

Deadline to pick the visits = Wednesday 26 April, midday Brazil time 

 

Beach Safety Tips

  1. Walking at Copacabana at night is a good option. The quiosques are open at night and are a good option for a beer or our traditional caipirinha;
  2. Watch for your mobiles: Avoid walking and talking and be careful while taking selfies - it's the perfect scenario for pickpockets;
  3. Gold necklaces - avoid walking on the beach with jewelry;
  4. Nightfall: do not go to the beach after midnight and do not try to watch the sunrise. Sunset is okay;
  5. Cash: no need to bring cash with you. Even beach vendors accept credit cards;
  6. Keep an eye for the amount displayed at the credit card payment machine - extra attention for extra zeros added; eg: the price is 10, they may try to charge 100;
  7. Don't leave your belongings unattended at the beach. They'll probably not be waiting for you. Prefer to go out in groups so you can take turn watching for your belongings;
  8. Watch out for the sea: Especially in Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon, it might be agitated - especially at night.

IBConnect Mobile App & Data Roaming

Please download and login to the IBConnect mobile app. We will be taking attendance using the QR codes issued by the app so you need to have easy access to this and the itineary. 

Data Roaming
A reminder that getting a local SIM in Brazil is not easy, it requires help from a local and is time consuming. 

We suggest:

  • E-Sim (check your phone is compatible): such as Maya Mobile. https://maya.net/esim/brazil
  • Roaming bolt on: This is best if your provider has a decent daily package rate rather than a per MB rate. Unfortunately some providers do not have bolt ons, so shop around before you leave.
  • Hotspot off a friend: If neither of the above works for you, offer to share the cost with a travelling friend you can hotspot from.
