Who should take this module?

This module will focus on the sustainability, social, and investment factors that contribute to inequality in East Africa and particularly in Kenya. It is suitable for students who are interested in learning about the potential of the African market, and those with a sustainability background.

    Volunteer Opportunities

    Student Company Visit Host

    As a student host, you will be the Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the company visit. Some of your duties will involve arriving promptly at the venue to greet any local speakers and thank them for hosting us. You will introduce the speaker, kick off the Q&A session with some of your own pre-prepared questions and facilitate the Q&A with the wider group.     Student Blogging & Social Media

    Whether you are already a student ambassador or a gifted photographer, get in touch to act as the official GEW champion on social media.     Learning Outcomes

    By the end of the module, you will be able to:

    • Describe the social, political, and cultural dynamics of doing business in the host countryAnalyse and evaluate the opportunities and challenges that influence doing business in the host country
    • Analyse and evaluate the opportunities and challenges that influence doing business in the host country
    • Assess issues related to sustainability, climate change, and/or social impact in the host country
    • Understand key innovations that are characteristic for the host country context

    Module Content

    The objectives of the module are to:

    • Gain real life exposure to an organisation that is based abroad
    • Learn about the macro environment and cultural context in which global organisations operate
    • Apply concepts, tools, and frameworks from the MBA programmes to solve real-world problems
    • Put into practice teamwork and consulting skills to address these problems

    Learning and Teaching Approach

    Sessions will normally be based on a combination of lectures, class discussion, group presentations, guest talks and case study analysis. This approach encourages the achievement of the various module learning outcomes by ensuring the acquisition of knowledge and facts, as well as the development of critical appreciation of the learnt theory and concepts and how these can be applied to real-world contexts.
